My Fair Lady - No Texas Drawl Allowed!

http://www.findonefindall.com/myfairlady31.jpg

You can be sure that when Mansfield Community Theatre steps out on the stage at the beautiful Kennedale Performing Arts Center in Kennedale Texas, any Texas twang will have been replaced by the Queens English and very accurate cockney. That just how Marty Fredrick, director, does it. Both Marty and Scott Ferrell, the musical genius behind MCT, have decided to only produce quality shows. "We have such great talent here" says Marty. She should know, she has been everywhere and done just about everything in theater, both professional and amateur. My Fair Lady will be no exception, featuring a full 30+ piece orchestra, a cast of more than 70, costumes worthy of Broadway and a venue that is truly state of the art. Performances July 16th-18th 2010 - You will not see community theater done like this anywhere else - Don't miss it!

Community Theatre - A Family Experience

Community Theatre - A Family Experience.
David J Melbourne.

Our children are the worst kind, teenagers! Last summer, my family was blessed to be involved in Mansfield Community Theatre’s mammoth production of “The Sound of Music” Our shared experience was one we all remember fondly, more so than any other activity we have been involved in. Our director, Marty Fredrick, veteran of countless productions, coached everyone, including the children, with quiet patience and professionalism through several weeks of intense rehearsals and run-throughs.

The subsequent performances from the cast and crew surprised and impressed many, including myself, someone who has seen first-hand, professional shows in London’s West End and the US. No one could believe what they saw was community theatre.

For my part, I got to play with a full orchestra, backing up the strings and harp sections with my synthesizer. MCT’s musical director Scott Ferrell is simply the best conductor out there, and in short order had us playing the music with the feeling, grace and power it deserved.

Moreover, we met many other families enjoying a similar journey and have built lasting friendships because of our involvement.

In these days of children and parents spending less and less time together, perhaps due to influences of the internet, TV and cell phones, you might consider getting your family involved MCT, or your local community theatre group. You won’t regret it.

My Fair Lady .... In Texas! Ready for a "Cattle Call"

Monday, March 8, 2010

My Fair Lady - In Texas!
"Cattle Call" Begins Today in Mansfield, TX

When the curtain rises on July16th 2010 at the Kennedale Performing Arts Centre (KPAC), you will forget the unlikely location, and sit open-mouthed at what you are seeing and hearing. This is not Marty Fredrick's first "rodeo" though. Last year she directed her Mansfield Community Theatre (MCT) company in "The Sound of Music" complete with 100 member cast, crew and a full 36 member orchestra, led by the talented Scott Ferrell, MCT's co-founder. It was truly wonderful, performed in the KPAC full fly-tower theatre.

Perhaps the challenge for Marty's Eliza Dolittle will be to overcome her Texas drawl and not her cockney one, as the well known part requires! No fear, by the time the play opens, our Eliza will speak the Queen's English too .... as did the children of Captain Von Trapp last year in MCT's "The Sound of Music".  One audience member, shocked by the scale and quality of that show, later recounted just repeating to herself "this is community theatre? This IS community theatre!" in disbelief. MCT is a truly professional group in every sense of the word.

So mosey on down here yall in July, we're a fixing to sing us some Lerner & Lowe. And it's gonna be real good! Bust a leg, or something.

MCT's search for Eliza & cast begins - today. Auditions are in mid April - See the website below.
Maybe soon we will be able to say....

"By jove, I think she got it yall ......"

Mansfield Community Theatre presents "Meet Me in St.Louis" February 19-21 2010

No one could have predicted the response from the Mansfield / Kennedale Texas community when the newly-formed Mansfield Community Theatre group put on a 50th year celebration of "The Sound of Music" last July. The musical, new to a whole generation, featured stellar performances, full theatre sets and backdrops with beautiful costumes, not to mention a 35 piece orchestra. The reviews were amazing, leaving a community hungry for more. More is coming this February. This time, Marty Fredrick and Dr.Scott Ferell are producing the hilarious stage play version of "Meet Me in St Louis, also at the new Kennedale Performing Arts Center (KPAC) Why not in Mansfield? Still no venue to seat the 500-1000 folks that will attend per show.

So that those hoping for more music will not be denied, MCT have added some of the songs from the musical before and after the play with a full cast in period costume - Some things are just too good to miss. This is one of them!
